On October 15–16, 2025, the international scientific and practical conference “Current Issues in Mechanics and Transport Structures” was held in Almaty. The event was dedicated to the 90th anniversary of the birth of Academician of the National Academy of Sciences of Kazakhstan, Honored Worker of Science and Technology, Doctor of Technical Sciences, Professor Musa Musaevich Aitaliev (1935–2007).
ALT University named after M. Tynyshpaev and the Institute of Mechanics and Machine Science named after Academician Ö.A. Zholdasbekov are the principal scientific centers where Academician Sh.M. Aitaliev carried out his long-term scientific activity, as well as the key partner organizers of the conference. For this reason, their contribution to the organization of the event was especially significant.
One of the distinguished guests of the conference was Bakytzhan Tursunovich Zhumagulov, President of the National Engineering Academy of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Doctor of Technical Sciences, Professor, and Academician of the National Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Kazakhstan. During the opening ceremony, he delivered a welcoming address and shared valuable recollections of the life and scientific work of Academician Sh.M. Aitaliev, highlighting his professional achievements and personal qualities.
The conference was organized in a hybrid format and brought together leading scientists, engineers, and specialists from more than 10 countries. The high level of participant engagement demonstrated the relevance of the scientific program: more than 200 presentations were delivered during the event.
The conference was held with the support of the Ministry of Education and Science of the Republic of Kazakhstan, the National Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Kazakhstan, the National Engineering Academy, and the country’s leading higher education institutions.
Plenary and sectional sessions addressed pressing issues in the fields of mechanics, seismic resistance of buildings and transport structures. Special attention was given to the scientific legacy of Sh.M. Aitaliev: his fundamental research was applied in the design and construction of the Almaty Metro, particularly in the development of methods for assessing the stability of underground tunnels in seismically hazardous regions.
As noted by the participants, the scientific ideas and principles of Academician Aitaliev remain relevant today and continue to serve as a fundamental basis for the development of engineering science in Kazakhstan. The conference became an important platform for exchanging experience, strengthening scientific cooperation, and advancing innovative approaches in the fields of mechanics and transport construction.
