On May 14, 2026, Joldasbekov Institute of Mechanics and Engineering hosted a scientific and technical seminar entitled “Fracture mechanics” dedicated to the 80th anniversary of Doctor of Physical and Mathematical Sciences, Professor Alibai Iskakbayev.

The ceremonial event was opened by Academician A.K. Tuleshov, who in his welcoming remarks emphasized that the honoree is a person who devoted his entire life to science and education, tirelessly working to enhance the country’s intellectual potential. He highlighted the rare combination in Professor Iskakbayev of profound fundamental knowledge and extensive practical experience, as well as his significant contribution to the development of national mechanics.

The keynote report at the seminar was delivered by Alibai Iskakbayev. In his presentation devoted to the mechanics of deformable solids, fracture mechanics, and the strength of materials, the professor not only highlighted current scientific challenges, but also emphasized that research should not remain confined to theory. A vivid confirmation of this approach is provided by his studies on the durability of asphalt concrete, the results of which have already been applied in the construction industry and have yielded valuable practical outcomes.

In recognition of his outstanding achievements, Professor Alibai Iskakbayev was awarded the Gold Medal named after Academician U.A. Joldasbekov. The staff of the institute warmly congratulated him and wished him good health and further success in his scientific endeavors.
